As I've had Scarlet for a week now I thought it was time I did a progress blog.
When I 1st brought her home she was naturally scared and would puff and spike me when I tried to go near her, but I persevered and picked up that ball of sharp spikes everyday and held her in my hands until her little nose came out and she decided that actually this whole human thing wasn't so bad!
It's a week on and she now recognises my smell. When I put my hands in to pick her up she sniffs at them and knows that it's okay. She'll come out and cuddle each night in front of the television without any problems and will quite happily fall asleep on my lap. It just goes to show how different the personalities of hedgehogs are though as Hufflepuff will not keep still prefering to use me as a climbing frame!
Hufflepuff is the perfect little hog, he never puffs up... it's hard to remember that he has spikes sometimes! I can examine his little feet and tummy without the risk of getting prickled, he is so laid back I'm sure he is going to produce some fantastic offspring in the Winter.
Right, well I thought I would use this blog space to tell any Hufflepuff related stories, so we'll call this one Huffle's 1st Bath.
I am pleased to report that the whole experience went without a hitch... not that Hufflepuff was too impressed with the whole thing, but he coped admirably.
I put a little bit of warm water in a bowl and added the hedgehog. He was very amusing to watch running around splashing and squeaking! I used his brush (a nice new green toothbrush) and gently washed his quills, pouring a little water with No Tears baby bath over his back then put a drop of vitamin E oil on him which really seemed to help with the scratching during quilling.
Huffle was then very happy to be picked up and cuddled in a towel, since then he has tried not to get himself dirty!
